The call for entries will be regulated by
the following terms:
First
- The purpose of the prize is to encourage experimentation in the
design and production of digital contents.
Second
- In this first edition the call for entries is searching for proposals
for the redesign of the website WikiChains.com,
a wiki platform that aims to
encourage ethical consumption of goods and services and transparency
in commodity chains, providing to anyone with the opportunity of
publishing texts, audiovisual contents or sound material on any
commodity chain. Wikichains is a charity registered by the OSCR (charity number SC04155).
Uploading
of information shall be under the creative freedom and responsibility
of the user and all of it shall be of free access. The ultimate
purpose is to achieve a body of data sufficient for citizens to find
information on mass production commodity chains.
WikiChains.com
does not support any specific political,
ethic or environmental perspective. It rather expects to facilitate a
free flow of information in order to overcome time and space
barriers; the project will help consumers to be better informed about
their economic decisions and their economic, social, political and
environmental impacts.
The Universidad Internacional de Andalucía is not responsible for the
contents published in the website
WikiChains.com.
Third
- One single prize of 1500 € shall be
awarded to the redesign proposal that the jury considers to be most
innovative, as well as feasible to be implemented. The prize money
shall be subject to any tax withdrawals established by law. The winning prototype shall be published under a Creative Commons licence to enable its reproduction and use for non-commercial purposes, provided that the names of the author/s of the proposal, the Universidad Internacional de Andalucía and WikiChains are included in a visible legend.
Moreover,
WikiChains undertakes to contract the services of the author of the
winning redesign proposal - or whoever he/she may designate - for
an amount not exceeding 1500 €. Contracting conditions shall be
subject to the provisions of the Charities and Trustee Investment
(Scotland) Act 2005, and the UNIA shall not intervene in any of the
stages of such process.
Fourth
- This call is open to any person.
Fifth
- Content of the proposals. The
WikiChains.com redesign proposals shall include a prototype showing
an approximate image of the final product in case such proposal is
implemented.
The redesign must be based on the use of the MediaWiki content
management system, on which the current version of WikiChains.com is
based. In addition to innovative character, visual attractive and
compliance with the current MediaWiki template standards, the jury
will also value positively proposals including solutions for:

access
to the site by means of mobile devices,
-
connections
with UPC codes and bar codes,
-
integration
of other external services that may be useful for the aims of the
project,
-
facilitating
visualization of commodity chains.
The
proposals submitted shall be free of any rights by third parties and
the Universidad Internacional de Andalucía shall be exempted of any
liability in case of any litigation or conflict that may arise
resulting from this issue.
Sixth
- Registration and documentation to be submitted
The
following documentation shall be submitted at registration:
- a.
Registration bulletin, duly completed
- b.
Photocopy of Identity Card or Passport
- c.
Dossier of the proposal
- d.
Dossier with previous projects and curriculum vitae (optional).
Seventh - The term for registration and submission of documentation
will start on 1st December 2010 and shall
end the 31st January 2011 at 11 pm. Please send your proposal to

Eighth - The Jury’s Decision will be published in the week between 6th
and 10th February 2011. The Jury’s Decision will be final. The Jury
may declare the prize without winner, if it considers that the quality
of the submitted proposals is not sufficient, and shall be also
entitled to solve any issue that may occur that does not infringe
these terms.
Ninth
- The jury of the contest shall be made up by two members of the UNIA
Digital Practices and Cultures programme and two persons
designated by WikiChains.
Tenth
- Participation in this contest implies the full acceptation of these
terms.
The Universidad Internacional de Andalucía calls the 1st
Digital Prize for Digital Projects for the year 2010. This call falls
within the programme of activities of the
UNIA Digital Practices and Cultures programme and in this first
edition the call is made in collaboration with the non-profit
organisation WikiChains, and thanks to the support of Nominet Trust and UnLtd.
